267- Halloween Coming... What to Do?

Every year I dress the yard up with a graveyard, scary dummy, weird lights, etc. This year all the kids are out of the house... and so I am solo with putting it together myself. Each year I say that it will be smaller and this year I mean it. Probably just a few tombstones and one scary dummy on the porch. I have started to get "the scary stuff" down from the attic. This may be a good year to thin out the gear that hasn't been used much. Stay tuned... boo!

266- Sideyard Project

I am putting in rock edging along the property line for easier mowing and a nice rock border in the one spot that grass just won't grow. I will try to post a pic when it's finished.

265- Roof Work to Start Monday

Monday the new roof and solar panels start. Not too excited about spending the $$$ or having the work crew here... but looking forward to saving the $$$ on electric bills and doing something positive for the environment.

264- Sports Recap

252- Nurses are Great

To all you nurses out there a big thank you. The nursing staff at Wyandotte General has been nothing short of outstanding, They have given my father exceptional care and I hope that one day I can repay a nurse in some way for this.

251- All Caught Up

... until tomorrow. Oh what the heck... I'll just post another one. But... this really isn't a post you say? Well you'd be correct.

Here's a shorty of five things:

1- President spoke tonight. A great speaker, but I don't know that spending another $400+ billion is going to get us out of this rut we are in. He's talked a spectacular game this presidency but sadly has delivered very little to America. Maybe the task is too big for one man to accomplish... but whether you voted for him or not you have to admit two things: 1- he gives a great speech and 2- We're still mired deep in recession with high unemployment and crappy roads... in spite of his $800,000,000,000 stimulus package of two years ago.

2- No one should get re-elected if they've failed to deliver the goods. Dem or Rep.

3- Tigers have a magic number of 12.... maybe this big of a lead is "Leyland-Proof".

4- Predictions: Chargers finish 10-6 and win the AFC West. Lions finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs.

5- A vegetable diet can reverse obesity, heart disease and possibly cancer. Read "The China Study" by Colin Campbell for details or watch the movie "Forks over Knives" for details.

250- Night in the Hospital

It is eerily quiet in a hospital at night. The usually soft nurse call bells sound like gongs being banged in the late hours. Foot traffic is absent and even the chatter of the nursing staff disappears. It is sort of peaceful but still the coughs, snores and snorts of patients echo in the still corridors.

Ding- Ding- Ding... there goes another call bell to interrupt the quiet. Although mostly silent the hospital nursing staff doesn't sleep.

249- Nearly 3/4 There

I am 3/4 the way through my blog-post-a-day-resolution for this year. I know that the last month or so there have been times when it's been multiple posts per day to get caught up. But still getting close right now to getting all caught up.

248- Football Season Begins Tonight

After a 45 minute speech by the President that asks for another $400+ billion in stimulus money, the regular NFL football season begins tonight. Saints versus Packers. The country may be going to hell in a hand basket but at least they will play football this year. Sort of like in Rome. The Empire was crumbling... but at least they had the Gladiators to fight it out in the Coliseum.

247- Family's Stick Together

Just when you think your family ties have gotten too strained you find out they are just as strong as ever. It mostly happens in times of crisis but sometimes in times of happiness too. Friends can come and go... many stick with you... but families seem to hunker down, gain strength and rise up to meet the challenge. Thank God for families.

246- Three Jokes

Q: Did you hear about the unknown fault line they discovered after last weeks earthquake in Washington DC?

A: they figured to they should name it "Obama's Fault".... but the White House called and said no, no, no ... it was all Bush's Fault!

-------------

Q: Do you know what the difference is between in-laws and out-laws?

A: Out laws are wanted.

-------------

Wisdom: You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose.... but you can't pick your friend's nose.

245- MAyan Calendar Update

Only 469 more shopping days left until... well... until the end!

244- Rainy Days

The last three days have been rainy and wet. Funny how it can be this way out here yet so dry in San Diego. They are cursing the rain ere and we would welcome it with open arms in Cali.

243- Life on this earth

We all know that our time on the earth is limited. But it never dawns on you just how short it really is. I am in Michigan with my father as his life comes to a close. I hear that the days are long but the years are short and that point is being driven into me this week. My father is making his final journey and it's been sorrowful as we wait with him as he walks the last few steps of his life. I know that Jesus Christ is waiting at the end of this road to welcome dad with open arms. He has run the good race and is ready to claim his prize.

He's 81 and has lived a fun filled and action packed life. He has enjoyed camping, fishing, going to plays, facebook.

He golfed, bowled, coached little league, and played the trumpet` in a dance band that played at weddings. He loves music, sat through our concerts and liked to pull the one-armed bandits at the casino's. He was a desk jockey for the electric company but also shoveled coal into the power plants to keep the lights burning. He ran a TV camera in the studio of a local cable company and watched his grandchildren grow up from afar as we traveled the world with the Navy.

He fought the North Korean commie bastards from Pensacola, Florida for four years. He greeted folks on Sunday morning and passed out communion. He hung out at the K of C club when my mom let him and enjoyed the comaraderie he found there along with his father.
He is my father and I love him.
