I've never heard of witch fire. It really does looks like fire, though. Neat.
Janie, the "Witch (Creek) Fire" was the what they named the wildfire one that nearly burned down our city in October 2007. Our neighborhood was evacuated for two days while the fire was burning uncontrolled. Talk about scary!
It started in an area called "Witch Creek". This sign is in The Blue Sky Preserve that is just starting to grow back after being burned out. You can see the still blackened tree trunks in the back.
I'm not sure what that yellow grass is called but after your comment it does look like witches hair! Thanks for the comment!
