Do You Know Me ?

- I was born on May 27, 1912 in the little town of Ashwood, VA.

- I learned to play golf on a cow pasture with golf clubs I made from Persimmon roots.

- I began caddying at the "Homestead" Golf Club when I was seven and became an assistant pro at the age of 19.

- I played professional golf for over 40 years and won 82 PGA golf tournaments in the USA and 70 others worldwide... but I never won a U.S. Open.

- I always wore a straw hat and sometimes played barefooted (pretty weird even back then).

- My nickname was "Slammin' Sammy" because I could really crank out long drives off the tee box.

- Many said I had the "perfect" golf swing.

- I died four days before my 90th birthday.

- One of my favorite bits of advice was: "Keep close count of your nickels and dimes, stay away from whiskey and never concede a putt".
