Do You Know Me ?

- I was Born on November 9, 1918 in Baltimore, MD.

- My education at Johns Hopkins was interrupted when I joined the Army and fought in World War II.

- After the war I enrolled at the University of Baltimore School of Law and graduated in 1947.

- I was raised as a Democrat but became a Republican in the 1950s.

- I served as the 55th Governor of Maryland from 1967-9.

- I was Richard Nixon's running mate and became the mouthpiece of the "silent majority" during the 1968 election.

- When John Ehrlichman, the President's counsel and assistant, asked Nixon why he kept his VP on the ticket in the 1972 election, Nixon replied that "No assassin in his right mind would kill me."

- Thus, I was the Vice President from 1969-1973.

- I was the second VP to resign (John C. Calhoun was the first) when I pleaded nolo contendere to tax evasion and money laundering charges. Because of that I was disbarred and later paid a fine of $268,482.
