101 in 1001-- Item # 9-- No Sweets for 25 days


Why I Chose This Goal: Empty calories are never good and sweets--- i.e. processed sugars, are loaded with empty calories. High fructose corn syrup, sucrose, glucose and plain old sugar are high on any processed foods ingredients list. Processed sugars are never good on things like kidneys, pancreas (the islets of Langerhans produce insulin) and can contribute to weight gain and type two diabetes. And of course too much sugar isn't good for your teeth!

What I Did: The easy thing was not to eat candy bars and sodas... the hard thing was checking the so-called "nutrition" bars. They are sugar bowls wrapped in oats, nuts and granola. Several times I started this only to be thwarted by forgetting the ingredients and grabbing a power bar.
