Do You Know Me?


Who Am I:
- I was born in San Gabriel, CA on November 11, 1885.
- I came from a wealthy family of Scottish descent and many of my male ancestors were military warriors and heroes.
- I attended VMI for a year, then went to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1909.
- I was an Olympian in the 1912 Summer games in Stockholm, Sweden and participated in the first modern pentathlon, doing well enough to finish fifth.
- I was an excellent swordsman and the Army named a Saber sword after me.
- I fought in the Mexican Expedition of 1916, World War I and was a general in World War II.
- I commanded victorious tank battles in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Lorraine and the Battle of the Bulge.
- I was relieved of my command for slapping a soldier with battle fatigue.
- My nickname was "Old Blood and Guts"
- I was severely injured in a car accident in Mannheim, Germany and died on December 21, 1945.
- After I died, they named a model of tank in my honor.
- George C. Scott portrayed me in a feature movie and won an Oscar.
