Who Am I?
- I was born in Kirkcudbright, Scotland on July 6, 1747.
- I began my maritime career aboard the "Friendship" when I was 13.
- In 1768 I took command of the ship "John" at age 21.
- My first US ship to command was "USS Providence" in April 1776.
- I took command of the "USS Ranger" on June 14,1777- the same day that Betsy Rosses "Stars and Stripes" were adopted as the US flag. The exploits of the Ranger are legendary.
- I commanded the USS Bonhomme Richard.
- The British considered me a pirate.
- I am most famous for the quote, "I have notyet begun to fight!"
