- I was born in Wallace, South Dakota on May 27, 1911.
- I went to the Capitol College of Pharmacy in Denver, CO and earned a pharmacy license. I was a practicing pharmacist from 1930-137 in my father's drugstore.
- I earned a BA at the University of Minnesota in 1939, a masters at LSU in 1940 and taught at the U of Minn in 1941-2.
- I was mayor of Minneapolis, MN 1945-8,
- I was the U.S. Senator from Minnesota from 1948-64 and 1971-78.
- In 1965 I was sworn in as Vice president of the United States.
- In 1968 I ran for President but was defeated by Republican Richard M. Nixon.
