Who Am I:
- I hail from from the City of Angels, Los Angeles, and was born on May 21, 1951.
- I received a bachelor's degree in English and Physics from Stanford University and also earned as Master's and PhD in Physics from the same Palo Alto school.
- I was one of nearly 9,000 people who answered a newspaper ad to become an astronaut.
- On June 18, 1983 I became the first American woman in space.
- I have logged 14 days, 7 hours and 46 minutes in space.
- I have written five children's books on space travel.
- I am on leave from my position as physics professor at UC San Diego and currently am CEO of an educational science company named after me.
- I was inducted into the California Hall of Fame on December 6, 2006.
